Drama Gong Analysis

   Drama Gong is an art performing Balinese, which includes dance art combined with tabuh / percussion art until become a beautiful unity with elements of art traditional Balinese. Drama Gong’s name is given to this art. Because, Drama Gong’s performance always use traditional music or gong. Drama Gong’s performance only as entertainment and generally have no spiritual or religious motives. For example like Drama Gong Petruk and Dolar. Two characters Drama Gong are well known for making the audience laugh. On this discussion, I will analyze Drama Gong Petruk and Dollar. Because, they are comedies couple famous in Bali.

B.     Plot

   Drama Gong Petruk and Dolar tell about I Luh Gadung and her sisters. They are very beautiful and well behaved. Her father wants all his daughters work sincerely/ngayah in Puri Agung. Her father takes their daughter to Puri Agung. They meet Ratu Duagung Biang, Duagung Gede, Petruk and Dolar. Duagung Gede’s bodyguard is Petruk and Dolar. Dollar goes to make a cup of coffee to work sincerely. Duagung Gede teases all the girls, because, they are young and beautiful. Duagung Gede and Dolar ask to introduce their self. There are three girls; they are Iluh Gadung, Iluh Meduri, and Iluh Monkeg.  Dolar invites all girls to make coffee in Puri.

   One day, Iluh Gadung and Iluh monkeg go for picking flowers. However, they meet someone. They are; Raden Perdana Putra, Bentur, and Gingsir. Raden Perdana Putra’s is Bentur and Gingsir. Raden Perdana Putra teases all the girls. He takes Iluh Gadung’s shawl. The girls start getting angry. They do not know, they angry with Duagung Raden Perdana Putra from Dinasti Kencana. The girls start prostrate and apologize. Raden Perdana Putra invites Luh Gadung for watching joded, and calonarang with the reason she should always beside Raden Perdana Putra.  After that, Luh Gandung and Luh Mongkeg learn make tipat taluh from Dolar. Duagung Gede invites girls his bodyguard to dance and sing together.

C.    Characters

There are Ten characters on this drama:

Dolar : He is a parekan/bodyguard from Duagung Gede and very funny. He does not wear a shirt and headband only wear black cloth, black shawl and saput poleng. He has a red face and a distended stomach.

Petruk : He  is also a parekan/bodyguard from Duagung Gede and very funny. Petruk and Dolar are couples Drama Gong Bali. He does not wear a shirt. However, he wears traditional hat, black cloth, red shawl and saput poleng. He has a unique face and his tooth is missing one.

Duagung Gede: He is a child from Ratu Duagung Biyang. He is very naughty, but, he is funny. He wears complete accessories likes t-shirt, songket headboard, gold bracelet, gold shawl, songket cloth and saput, with gold, red, and yellow colors. He brings Kris. He has a parekan/Bodyguard, they are Petruk and Dolar.

Ratu Duagung Biang: She is very beautiful and good attitude. Duagung Gede is child from Ratu Duagung Biang. He wears complete accessories likes traditional t-shirt, bracelet, yellow shawl songket cloth and saput, with gold, purple, and yellow colors.

Iluh Meduri: She is a beautiful and sincerely/pengayah. He wears traditional t-shirt, shawl, and cloth, with green color.

Iluh Gandung: She is a sincerely/pengayah and beautiful. It makes Duagung gede and Raden Perdana Putra always teasing her. She is Meduri’s sister. He wears traditional t-shirt, shawl, and cloth, with red and yellow colors.

Iluh Mongkeg: She is a beautiful and sincerely/pengayah. She is sisters from Iluh Meduri and Iluh Mongkeg. He wears traditional t-shirt, shawl, and cloth, with green, yellow, and red color.

Raden Perdana Mentri: He is a Raden from Dinasti kencana and handsome boy. He wears complete accessories likes traditional t-shirt, songket headboard, gold bracelet, orange shawl, songket cloth and saput, with gold, red, orange and green colors. He brings Kris. He has a parekan/Bodyguard, they are Bentur and Gingsir.

Bentur: He is a parekan/bodyguard from Raden Perdana Mentri and very funny. He wears small T-shirt, headband, black cloth, green shawl and saput poleng. He has a distended stomach.

Gingsir: He is also parekan/bodyguard from Raden Perdana Mentri and very funny. He wears small T-shirt, headband, black cloth, green shawl and saput poleng.
